Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts reclaimed the Eastern Division lead on Tuesday night with a 6-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers before 2,358 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The Lugnuts are now one-half game ahead of West Michigan in the race for first with four games to play in the half.
Lansing trailed the Rattlers 1-0 in the third when Josh Bell cracked his fifth homer of the season to center field to tie the game at 1-1. Bell finished the game 3-for-3 with the home run.
The score would stay that way until the fifth when Brian Pettway hammered his 11th longball of the season, a solo shot to left-center field that put the Lugnuts ahead 2-1. After Bell doubled and Anthony Garibaldi walked, Jesus Gonzalez dropped a double into the right field corner to plate both runners to push the lead to 4-1.
The Timber Rattlers would plate their final run in the sixth inning when Luis Valbuena homered for the second straight night off of the fencing above the right field wall to make the score 4-2.
The Lugnuts responded in the bottom of the inning with a Brian Pettway single into left field that scored Anthony Hatch who doubled earlier in the frame.
Lansing's final run came in the eighth on a Joey Metropoulos single that once again scored Hatch to push the lead to 6-2.
Aaron Tressler (3-2) picked up the win for the Lugnuts, tossing six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits while fanning seven. Three relievers combined to shut down the Rattlers through the final three innings.
Paul Fagan (2-7) suffered the loss for Wisconsin (26-39) after throwing 7 2/3 innings and surrendering six runs on eight hits.
Lansing (39-25) will take Wednesday off before returning to action on the road Thursday against the South Bend SilverHawks for the final series of the first half. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
