
Chiefs win streak halted at seven

Peoria, IL -The Peoria Chiefs saw their longest winning streak since 2003 come to an end when they fell to the Clinton LumberKings 4-2 Tuesday night at O'Brien Field. Despite the loss, Peoria can win the first-half division title by taking three of four from Kane County this weekend.
After being shutout Monday night, Clinton got on the board right away in the first. With one out and runners on first and second, Freddie Thon blooped a single into left-center to score Jose Vallejo from second and give the LumberKings a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs got even in the second. Yusuf Carter led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a groundout to third. With two outs, Dylan Johnston found a hole up the middle to score Carter to knot the game at one.
The LumberKings regained the lead in the top half of the fifth. David Peterson led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Terry Blunt came through for Clinton when he delivered a sacrifice fly to Jesus Valdez in left to score Peterson and make it a 2-1 game. Clinton made it a two-run game when Ben Crabtree blasted a solo shot to the lawn in left field in the top of the sixth.
Peoria cut the Clinton lead in half in their half of the sixth. With one away, Mark Reed and Jesus Valdez ripped back-to-back singles to right to put runners at the corners for Ryan Norwood who lifted a sacrifice to center to plate Reed and make it a 3-2 disadvantage.
Clinton answered right back in inning number seven. Joe Kemp scored on a Jesus Yepez wild pitch to allow the LumberKings to reclaim their two-run lead at 4-2.
Yepez tossed seven innings in a losing effort. The lefty went gave up four runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out five. Juan Jimenez picked up the win for the LumberKings. He tossed seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

Roger Evenson (RHP) - The Chiefs' reliever pitched 1/3 of an inning and was credited for a hit batsman.
Notes...Evenson was ejected in the eighth inning when he hit Crabtree. Manager Jody Davis also was ejected for arguing the decision to toss Evenson....Attendance Tuesday night was 2,314...The Chiefs have an off-day tomorrow and will travel to Kane County on Thursday to face the Cougars. RHP Mitch Atkins (5-1, 1.90) will start on the mound for the Chiefs tomorrow going up against RHP Jared Lansford (5-3, 2.36) ...First pitch of the first game is slated for 6:30 PM and the pre-game show will kick-off at 6:15 on www.peoriachiefs.com.
