Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Robby Donovan was dominant for the West Division leading Schaumburg Boomers, throwing the first nine-inning complete game in franchise history on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Normal CornBelters in the opening game of the second half.
The second largest crowd of the season at Boomers Stadium, 3,602, helped Donovan overshadow Normal starter Jacob Liedka (1-5). Donovan fanned seven and allowed just six baserunners in the complete game effort to improve to 6-2 on the season. Normal held a 1-0 lead in the first when Steven Felix registered a double to score K.C. Judge with the lone run of the game. Donovan retired 11 straight following the first inning run. Schaumburg quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly from Jereme Milons to score Nate Baumann, who led off the inning with a bunt single.
Schaumburg (30-19) took the lead for the first time with a pair of seventh inning tallies. Drew Heithoff logged a bunt single to open the inning and Mike Valadez followed suit with a double. Milons and Karexon Sanchez lifted sacrifice flies to put Schaumburg ahead.
The series continues on Saturday night with a 6:00 p.m. contest. RHP Matt Kuna (1-0, 3.98) takes the mound for the Boomers opposite LHP Tyler Stovall (1-5, 5.25). Help celebrate Coop's Birthday with a bobblehead giveaway for the first 1,500 fans through the gates.
