Washington Wild Things News Release
Prior to Friday night's game against Traverse City, the Washington Wild Things picked up outfielder Gus Benusa. Benusa, a native of Oakmont, PA, was drafted in the eighth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Benusa chose to sign with the Giants organization straight out of high school.
Benusa spent 2009 and 2011-2012 with the Giants organization in the Rookie Arizona League. His best year was in 2011, where he hit .297 (22-for-74) with seven RBI's and fifteen runs scored.
To make room on the roster, the Wild Things released infielder Matt McConnell. McConnell, who was drafted by the Phillies in the 36th round of the 2009 Draft, hit .228 (23-for-101) in his time with Washington.
The Wild Things began a three game series with Traverse City tonight at CONSOL Energy Park. Tickets are still available for the series, and can be purchased at the box office, at www.washingtonwildthings.com, or by calling (866) 456-WILD.
