Wild Things Win Third Straight with 4-2 Victory

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, started off the second half of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums.

The early scoring settled down, and the Wild Things' pitching staff proved to be too much for the Beach Bums.

The Beach Bums scored one run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. An error by second baseman Tanner Leighton allowed Ryan Still to score the first run of the game.

Washington answered quickly, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first. Third baseman Shain Stoner ripped a one-out single to drive home two runs in the inning. Center fielder Robbie Garvey also added an RBI in the inning, driving in Andrew Heck on a sharply hit single.

Traverse City fought back, chipping into the lead in the top of the third inning. The Beach Bums cut the lead in half, as an RBI single by fi4-2 rst baseman Chase Burch got them within one.

The Wild Things got back to work in the bottom of the fourth, when Shain Stoner led off with a double. An RBI groundout by Leighton drove Stoner home to get the Washington lead back to two.

Washington led 4-2 after four.

Brooks Belter, the starter for the Beach Bums, pitched six innings, allowing four runs on three hit. He also added five walks and five strikeouts, but suffered his first loss of the season.

Washington's pitching staff was impressive not allowing the Beach Bums to record a hit after the third inning.

Starter Chris Smith went six strong innings, allowing two runs (one

earned) on three hits. Smith also fanned seven, as he earned his fifth win of the season.

One of the many bright spots in Smith's game is his ERA. Coming into tonight's game, Smith had a 3.05 ERA. After his solid outing, Smith lowered his ERA to 2.87, placing him in the top-10 amongst starters in the league.

Smith handed the game off to reliever Nick Cicio, who pitched a perfect seventh inning. Cicio also added two strikeouts in his inning of work.

Reliever Chandler Barnard followed Cicio, and threw a perfect eighth inning.

Reliever Orlando Santos looked to shut it down in the ninth, as he entered the save situation. Santos made it look easy, pitching a

1-2-3 inning to seal the deal for the Wild Things.

The Washington bullpen finished with three innings of work, allowing no hits and fanning four.

Washington will be back in action tomorrow night for the second game of the series against Beach Bums. Washington's Casey Barnes takes the hill opposite of Scott Dunn, with the first pitch set for 7:05 tomorrow night.
