River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - River City stranded 11 runners on base, nine in scoring position, including the bases loaded twice, but battled back from a 5-0 deficit to fall by a final of 7-5.
With the wind blowing hard and out to center field, Rascal starter Nick Kennedy (4-2) gave up three wind-aided homeruns in the first three innings while the Rascal offense was held hitless before they were down by five runs.
River City (26-23) scored twice in the fourth after a leadoff single and hit-by-pitch from Curran Redal and Doug Sanders, respectively, scored on a pair of errors to close the gap to 5-3. The Crushers (26-23) responded with a little help.
Two errors in the fifth allowed two unearned runs to score to push the lead back to five runs.
A two-out, pinch-hit double from Jason Patton closed the gap to 7-4 in the sixth after Jerem Synan and Josh Workman singled with one out. Eric Williams worked a walk to start the seventh and scored on a two-out single from Charlie Lisk.
River City plated a run in the ninth after Sanders was hit by a pitch with one out, stole second, and scored on a two-out single from Synan. Workman would draw a walk to represent the tying run, but Chris Andreas struck out to end the game.
River City will look to even the series Saturday night with first pitch set for 7:05. The Rascals will send Preston Vancil (2-5, 3.60) to the mound against Crusher All-Star Paul Fagan (4-3, 2.75).
