Normal CornBelters News Release

SCHAUMBURG - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, scored in the first inning but could not further reach Schaumburg starter Robby Donovan, who pitched a complete game four-hitter as the Boomers won 4-1 on Friday night at Boomers Stadium.

The CornBelters struck first in their first time up when newcomer K.C. Judge singled up the middle and scored on a double to the right-center field wall by Steven Felix.

The Boomers evened the score at 1-1 in the second inning. With runners on second and third, Schaumburg plated a run on a sacrifice fly by Jereme Milons on a diving catch by Belters right fielder Steven Felix, who threw out the remaining runner to keep the score even.

Schaumburg broke the tie in the seventh after Drew Heithoff led off with a base hit followed by a double by Mike Valadez to put runners on second and third, with Milons collecting his second RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly to deep center. Heithoff scored one batter later when Karexon Sanchez also hit a sacrifice fly to center to give the Boomers a 3-1 lead.

Donovan improved to 6-2 with the win, while CornBelters starter Jacob Liedka gave up just five hits in seven innings but fell to 1-5 with the loss.

The CornBelters continue the first series of the second half of the Frontier League season at 6 p.m. Saturday in Schaumburg. CornBelters left-hander Tyler Stovall (1-5, 5.25 ERA) takes the ball against Boomers right-hander Matt Kuna (1-0, 3.98 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com is scheduled for 5:50.
