ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Chicago Dogs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to a walk-off win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 8-7, in game one of the Wednesday doubleheader at Impact Field.

With the game tied and a runner on second, David Olmedo-Barrera beat out an infield single to Gary first baseman Alex Crosby. The RailCats were caught sleeping after the hit, allowing Jordan Dean to speed home for the game-winning run. The Dogs entered the inning facing a 7-5 deficit and were previously 0-12 when their opponent was leading entering the final frame.

The RailCats got their offense started in a hurry, putting up four runs in the opening frame off of Dogs starter Trevor Simms, who departed after 0.2 innings. Danny De La Calle's RBI double and Andy DeJesus' run-scoring single made it 4-0 before the Dogs came up to bat.

The deficit was short lived, as the Dogs answered with a four-spot of their own. David Olmedo-Barrera, who finished the game 4-for-5, led off the inning with a home run to put Chicago on the board. After Keon Barnum doubled to put runners on second and third, Victor Roache tied the game with a towering three-run shot to left, his tenth of the season.

Gary re-took the lead in the top of the second off of Josh Goossen-Brown, hauling in three runs on an MJ Rookard triple, a Will Savage sacrifice fly, and a DeJesus single.

The Dogs responded in the bottom of the frame with a run-scoring groundout by Edwin Arroyo, making it 7-5 in favor of the RailCats.

The game remained locked in that score until the seventh inning, thanks to 2.1 shutout frames from Rich Mascheri (W, 2-1).

With runners on second and third and no one out, Mitchell Kranson hit a run-scoring groundout to bring the Dogs within one. On the next at-bat, a wild pitch by Gary reliever Felix Carvallo (L, 1-2) brought Roache home to tie the game at seven.

Dean then doubled to put the winning run in scoring position for Olmedo-Barrera, who completed the comeback with his walkoff hit.

Game Two: Dogs 8, RailCats 2

The Chicago Dogs' offense continued its hot stretch to back a spectacular start by Jake Dahlberg as they defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 8-2, to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Dahlberg (W, 4-2) dominated in a complete game outing. The UIC alum allowed two earned runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over seven frames.

The Dogs broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Trey Vavra launched a three-run homer, his third of the year. Two pitches later, Keon Barnum mashed an opposite-field homer to go back-to-back and push the lead to 4-0. After Jordan Dean singled, Gustavo Pierre drove him home with a double to make it 5-0 Chicago.

David Olmedo-Barrera continued his scorching-hot stretch of late with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, his second of the doubleheader, to increase the Dogs' lead to seven. After batting 4-for-5 in game one of the doubleheader, DOB finished the second game 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Later in the fourth, Dean lined an RBI single to score Edwin Arroyo and give Chicago an 8-0 advantage.

The RailCats chipped away with two runs over the final three frames, but could not muster enough offense to rally past the Dogs.

LHP Austin Wright (2-5) will start the series finale tomorrow, with first pitch set for 6:05 PM.
