Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, but were unable to overcome an early deficit in a 7-5 loss to the Sacramento River Cats Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The River Cats broke open the series finale between the teams with a four-run fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead and led, 7-2, heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Oklahoma City then tallied three runs on four hits. Drew Jackson led off with a triple and scored on a RBI single up the middle by Rocky Gale. Pinch-hitter Jake Peter later connected on a RBI groundout, allowing Gale to score and cut Sacramento's lead to three runs. Later with two outs, Zach Reks added a RBI single to cut the River Cats' lead to two.
The Dodgers (23-36) would bring the tying run to the plate, but Cameron Perkins grounded out to first base to end the game as Sacramento won the final two games of the set to win the lone series of the season between the teams, 2-1.
Sacramento (30-30) took the game's initial lead in the first inning.
Mike Gerber led off the game with a double then scored on a RBI single by Anthony Garcia. Sacramento went ahead 2-0 when Zach Green grounded into a force out at second base later in the inning.
Sacramento scored four more runs in the fourth inning.
Former Dodger Henry Ramos lined a RBI double to right field to boost Sacramento's lead to 3-0. Pitcher Enderson Franco drew a bases-loaded walk for a four-run advantage before Gerber grounded a two-run single into right field to push Sacramento's lead to 6-0.
The Dodgers answered in the bottom of the inning.
Shane Peterson knocked a solo homer out to Sacramento's bullpen in right-center field to cut Sacramento's lead to 6-1. The Dodgers have now homered in a season-best eight straight games and have 14 homers during the stretch.
Back-to-back singles by OKC's Jackson and Gale then cut the River Cats' lead to 6-2.
The River Cats added a run in the sixth inning. Abiatal Avelino lined a triple to left field to lead off, then scored on a RBI single by Levi Michael for a 7-2 lead.
Dodgers starting pitcher Mitchell White (1-4) was charged with the loss for Oklahoma City, allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Sacramento reliever Steven Okert (4-1) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts to earn the win. Fernando Abad allowed one hit and secured the final out for his seventh save of the season.
The Dodgers remain home and next open a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies starting at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the game, presented by True Sky Credit Union.
