New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Sacramento River Cats took the lead on the first pitch of the game and never relinquished it, topping the New Orleans Baby Cakes 10-0 on Friday night.
The Baby Cakes suffered their largest margin of defeat of the season.
After a 15-minute weather delay, Henry Ramos hit Hector Noesi's first delivery over the center field wall, as the River Cats tallied three extra-base hits in the first four batters, adding a double by Austin Slater, who scored on a home run by Chris Shaw.
Noesi (5-3) allowed a season-high third home run to catcher Ronnie Freeman in the sixth. He allowed nine hits, also a season high, and took the loss after working through six innings.
Sacramento starter Yoanys Quiala (3-2) stifled the New Orleans lineup to only four hits --- all singles --- in his six frames of work, striking out a quartet. He issued one walk, which came to Lewis Brinson in the first following an Isan Diaz single. It would be the only frame the 'Cakes had more than one baserunner, after Billy Fleming was thrown out trying to stretch a single on a liner into left into a double with Rodrigo Vigil on base.
Quiala retired the last four batters he faced and exited after the sixth. Relievers Ray Black and Sam Coonrod each retired the side in order in the seventh and eighth innings. After 11 consecutive outs, Isan Diaz laced a single in the ninth to extend his hit streak to nine, the longest of his Triple-A career.
Jose Quijada and Brian Moran each allowed two earned runs in relief, with Quijada being tagged with an additional unearned run after a throwing error by Deven Marrero.
The Cakes and River Cats continue their four-game set tomorrow night. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
