Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Metairie, La. - The Oklahoma City Dodgers scored three runs in the first inning and had another solid night all around, tallying eight runs and 12 hits en route to winning 8-2 over the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday night at Zephyr Field.
The Dodgers (36-31) have won five of their last six games and have won seven of the last nine on the road. Dating back to last season, they have now won eight straight games at Zephyr Field.
Corey Brown tied his season high with four RBI, bringing home four of the team's first five runs. He was one of four Dodgers with a multi-hit game. O'Koyea Dickson and Jack Murphy each finished with a game-high three hits. Dickson now has seven hits over his last two games and scored three times Saturday night. Murphy's three hits were a season high.
The Dodgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as the team batted around. Brown drove in the first two runs of the night when singled with the bases loaded to plate a pair. Murphy later collected a RBI single with two outs to add another run. The Dodgers drew four walks in the inning and made New Orleans starting pitcher Greg Nappo throw 42 pitches.
In his next time up, Brown drilled a two-run homer to center field to make it 5-0 in the third inning, marking Brown's sixth home run of the season.
The Zephyrs (32-35) answered with their first run in the bottom of the inning. A two-out RBI single by Destin Hood got New Orleans on the board and cut OKC's lead to 5-1.
Rob Segedin followed Brown's lead with a solo homer in the fourth inning for his team-leading 12th home run of the season. Segedin has now homered in each of his last two games, as well as in three of his last five games.
Austin Barnes further stretched the lead with a RBI single sixth inning, making it 7-1.
The Zephyrs tallied another run in the bottom of the seventh. Isaac Galloway led off with a triple and score two batters later on a groundout by Kenny Wilson.
The Dodgers' final run of the night was a unique one. Dickson led off the inning with a double and was at second base with two outs and Murphy at the plate. Murphy swung and missed and the pitch went to the backstop. New Orleans catcher Carlos Coporan thought it was a dead ball, but the ball was live. Dickson scored all the way from second base, putting the lead at 8-2.
On the mound, three pitchers combined to hold the Zephyrs to two runs and four hits. Starting pitcher Jose De Leon allowed one run and two hits over four innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. Lisalverto Bonilla (2-2) followed and allowed one run and two hits over three innings. He struck out three and walked one. Sam LeCure rounded things out with two perfect innings in his first game off the disabled list, notching two strikeouts.
Nappo (3-4) ended up with the loss. He allowed five runs and four hits over three innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.
The Dodgers and Zephyrs will meet on Father's Day at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before the scheduled first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
