TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (38-30) dropped a 4-3 decision to the Fresno Grizzlies (31-36) on Saturday night Cheney Stadium.

Catcher Rob Brantly (2x4), designated hitter Mike Zunino (2x4), and third baseman Patrick Kivlehan (1x3) led the offense, combining for all three Rainiers runs and one RBI.

Right-hander Jarrett Grube worked 4.1 innings, allowing only one run on three hits while walking five and striking out five - he did not factor into the decision.

Fresno jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when A.J. Reed smacked a two-out solo home run to right field.

The Rainiers grabbed the lead by manufacturing two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kivlehan reached first base on a fielder's choice ground ball, advanced to third base on a double from Brantly, and came around to score on a fielder's choice RBI groundout from Boog Powell. Chris Taylor then lined a single into left field to plate Brantly, giving Tacoma the 2-1 advantage.

The Grizzlies scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead. Reed smacked a one-out, one-run double down the left field line, followed by a two-run double off the bat of Matt Duffy.

Kivlehan led off the bottom of the seventh inning by smashing a solo home run to left field, cutting the Grizzlies lead to one at 4-3.

Paul Fry, Kraig Sitton, and Emilio Pagan covered the final 4.2 innings out of the Rainiers bullpen and allowed a combined three runs on five hits, while striking out six.

Tacoma right-hander Donn Roach (4-4, 4.72) and Fresno righty Mike Hauschild (5-6, 3.50) will square off as the Rainiers and Grizzlies continue their series tomorrow, Sunday, June 19. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. PT.
