New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Rob Segedin homered for the second straight game, and Corey Brown added a two-run shot to lead the Oklahoma City Dodgers past the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-2.
The Zephyrs have dropped three straight games after winning 11 of their previous 13. New Orleans has scored just 11 runs in six games against the Dodgers this season.
Greg Nappo was making a spot start in place of Chris Narveson, who was placed on the paternity list, and labored through a first inning in which the Dodgers scored three times.
Nappo walked the bases loaded and Brown blooped a single into shallow right field to give the Dodgers the lead. Jack Murphy added a two-out single up the middle to tack on another run.
Brown's home run in the third inning, his sixth of the year, stretched the Dodgers' lead to 5-0 and gave the Oklahoma City right fielder four RBI on the night.
Nappo reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the third and came around to score on a Destin Hood single to get New Orleans on the board and give Hood his team-leading 45th RBI.
But Segedin launched his fourth home run in his last six games in the top of the fourth, the second in as many games at Zephyr Field for the former Tulane All-American.
Dodgers starter Jose De Leon worked four innings and yielded one run and two hits while throwing 65 pitches. Lisalverto Bonilla (2-2) tossed three innings of one-run relief to pick up the victory.
Nappo (3-4) was charged with five runs in three innings to take the loss in his first career Triple-A start.
The Zephyrs and Dodgers meet in the third game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
