Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (June 1) - Frank Schwindel hit two home runs, but the Oklahoma City Dodgers hung on to defeat Omaha 8-7 on Friday night at Bricktown Ballpark.
Omaha scored twice in the top of the 1st, as Jack Lopez walked, Frank Schwindel walked, Cam Gallagher singled home Lopez, and Paulo Orlando reached on a fielding error, allowing Schwindel to score.
The Dodgers answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd against Heath Fillmyer . Matt Beaty homered, Kyle Garlick doubled, and Jacob Scavuzzo homered for a 3-2 lead.
The Chasers tied it in the 3rd inning. Cam Gallagher walked, and Paulo Orlando drove him in with a triple.
Caleb Ferguson was lifted after 3 frames for Oklahoma City. He was charged with 3 runs, 3 hits, and 4 walks. He struck out 2.
The Dodgers reclaimed the lead in the last of the 4th. Mike Ahmed led off with a single, and with 1 out, Alex Verdugo doubled and Kyle Farmer singled to plate a run each, making it 5-3 OKC.
Kyle Garlick pushed the score to 6-3 with a solo homer in the 5th, and the Dodgers tacked on 2 more in the bottom of the 6th. Tim Locastro doubled, Kyle Farmer singled and advanced to 2nd on the throw to the plate, and Edwin Rios singled for an 8-3 lead.
Heath Fillmyer (L, 3-5) allowed 7 runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 1.
Frank Schwindel pulled a run back for Omaha in the top of the 7th, crushing his 8th home run of the season to center field.
Manny Banuelos (W, 6-3) worked 4.1 innings for the Dodgers; he allowed a 2nd run in the top of the 9th, on a hit-by-pitch to Billy Burns and an RBI double by Adalberto Mondesi . Joe Broussard (S, 3) recorded the final 2 outs, earning the save, but not before Frank Schwindel blasted his 2nd home run of the evening, cutting the lead to 8-7. But the Chasers couldn't find the equalizer, and fell to their 2nd consecutive defeat.
The Storm Chasers (23-31) will continue the series tomorrow evening at 7:05. RHP Josh Staumont (1-1, 1.82) will toss for Omaha, while Oklahoma City will counter with LHP Caleb Ferguson (0-0, 0.00).
