Memphis Redbirds News Release

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - The Memphis Redbirds (34-22) got within a run in the eighth inning after trailing 4-1, but the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins) answered back with two runs in the home-half of the eighth to spur a 6-3 win Friday night in New Orleans, La.

Rangel Ravelo hit a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, in the top of the eighth to bring the Redbirds to within 4-3. But Arturo Reyes surrendered a pair in the bottom-half, and the Redbirds went down in order in the top of the ninth to finish the ballgame.

Despite the defeat, Memphis has won 11 of its last 15 games.

Patrick Wisdom was 0-for-4, ending his career-long hitting streak at 16 games. He hit .424 (25-59) during his streak, which was tied for the sixth-longest in Redbirds history. Oscar Mercado and Ravelo had two hits apiece for Memphis.

The Redbirds led 1-0 after a half-inning, and the club had five hits in the first two innings. But after that, the Redbirds did not have another hit until the seventh inning, as the Baby Cakes took their 4-1 lead.

In the top of the eighth, Mercado singled and scored on Ravelo's homer, and after a Wisdom strikeout Tyler O'Neill reached on an error. But the next two Redbirds flew out to left field to leave the potential tying run on base.

Sean Gilmartin made the start and allowed four runs on three hits in 4.2 innings. Mike O'Reilly tossed 1.1 scoreless frames before giving way to Reyes, who worked a 1-2-3 seventh before being touched for the two runs in the eighth.

O'Neill threw out a runner at the plate in his first game back from St. Louis.

The Redbirds are in New Orleans for two more games before returning home for seven contests against Tacoma and Reno starting Tuesday. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
