Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers hit three home runs as their offense stayed hot at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in an 8-7 win against the Omaha Storm Chasers Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 9,930.
The Dodgers - who took the field as Cielo Azul de Oklahoma City during ¡CelebraciÃ"n Cielo Azul! - picked up their Minor League-leading 22nd home win of the season, improving to 22-5 in Bricktown.
Matt Beaty, Kyle Garlick and Jacob Scavuzzo each homered for the Dodgers, who scored eight or more runs in a home game for the 10th time this season. They also tallied 15 hits, marking the seventh time this season Oklahoma City has racked up 14 or more hits in a game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
With the win, the Dodgers (32-19) took a 2-1 lead in their series with the Storm Chasers.
Omaha (23-31) scored the game's first, and last, runs Friday.
Cam Gallagher's RBI single in the first inning put the Storm Chasers ahead, 1-0. Paulo Orlando hit a soft grounder toward OKC pitcher Caleb Ferguson who was unable to field the ball cleanly, allowing Omaha's second run of the game to score.
Beaty led off the bottom of the second inning with his first Triple-A home run out to right field to put the Dodgers on the board. Garlick followed with a double and later with one out, Scavuzzo homered onto the Budweiser Deck in left field to give Oklahoma City a 3-2 advantage.
Omaha's Orlando connected on a RBI triple to center to tie the game, 3-3, in the third inning.
The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with two outs, but were unable to bring home a run.
Michael Ahmed led off with a single for Oklahoma City in the fourth inning. Later with one out, Alex Verdugo hit a fly ball to left field to score Ahmed. Farmer followed and singled on a soft fly ball to right field. Verdugo came around to score on the play for a 5-3 Dodgers advantage.
Garlick hit the Dodgers' third homer of the game - and his team-leading seventh homer of the season - in the fifth inning beyond the 415 sign and into the corner of the Dodgers' bullpen in left-center field to boost Oklahoma City's lead to 6-3.
Back-to-back RBI singles with two outs in the sixth inning by Farmer and Edwin RÃ-os extended the Dodgers' lead to 8-3.
Omaha's Frank Schwindel connected on a solo homer out to center field cut the Dodgers' lead to 8-4 in the seventh inning.
The Storm Chasers then scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, including a RBI double by Adalberto Mondesi and two-run homer by Schwindel - his second of the night.
Farmer and Garlick each paced the Dodgers offense with three hits. Farmer and Scavuzzo each drove in two runs for Oklahoma City.
Caleb Ferguson started the game on the mound for the Dodgers, allowing three runs (two earned) and three hits over 3.0 innings with four walks and two strikeouts.
Adam Liberatore (2-1) pitched a scoreless fourth inning to earn the win before Manny Bañuelos entered the game to pitch in a piggyback role, allowing three runs and five hits over 4.1 innings.
Joe Broussard picked up his third save of the season, and second in as many nights, securing the final two outs of the game.
