Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (33-23) beat the Albuquerque Isotopes (29-27) 10-3 Friday night from Isotopes Park. Coming into the game, the Grizzlies had three players hit for the cycle in its franchise history, with one already in 2018 (J.D. Davis, May 17th at El Paso). Derek Fisher (5-for-5) etched his name as the fourth player all-time and the second this season. He drove in four runs and scored three times. His five-hit night was also the most hits by a Fresno player in a game this season. The outstanding night was just a year short (June 14th, 2017) of when Fisher was recalled by the Astros for his debut.
Kyle Tucker gave Fresno a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first when he spanked a single to right field, recording Fisher (leadoff double).
Albuquerque grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the first after an error plated a pair.
Jack Mayfield (3-for-5) knotted the score at two in the top of the second when he smashed a solo shot to right field. It was his sixth homer of the season and his second of the series. In the top of the fourth, Drew Ferguson (3-for-4) made it 3-2 when he laced a single to right, knocking in Nick Tanielu. The lead expanded to 4-2 in the top of the fifth after Fisher tripled to the gap and sprinted home on a sacrifice fly to center by Tucker.
The Isotopes cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the sixth from a groundout that netted Josh Fuentes (2-for-4).
In the top of the seventh, Fisher finished the final leg of the cycle with a bomb to left field. His three-run blast made it 7-3 Grizzlies. The lead extended to 9-3 in the top of the eighth when Fisher singled home Tanielu and Tucker (three-RBI night) scored Ferguson on a groundout. Jon Kemmer added a 10th run in the top of the ninth when he plastered a solo shot to left field. It was his ninth clout of the season and second of the series.
Andrew Thome finished off a 10-3 victory with a double play in the ninth.
Mike Hauschild (3-5, win) enjoyed the support, going six innings. He scattered seven hits, three runs (one earned), walking zero and fanning eight. Buddy Boshers hurled two scoreless innings of relief, punching out four. Garrett Stubbs (2-for-4) pushed his hit streak to a team-high 10 games, becoming the fifth Fresno player to do so this season.
Jeff Hoffman (3-4, loss) went six innings, allowing four runs (earned). He allowed eight hits, three walks and struck out five.
Both teams continue the set with game four of five Saturday night from Isotopes Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PT with pre-game starting at 5:15 PT on KKDJ 99.7 Fresno. Albuquerque LHP Sam Howard (3-3, 4.58) and Fresno RHP Trent Thornton (3-3, 3.43) are the probable starters.
