Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees scored two runs in the eleventh inning to defeat the Tacoma Rainiers 10-8 on Thursday night.

Under the new rules, Jose Miguel Fernandez opened the inning at second base and moved to third on a sacrifice by Nolan Fontana. After Rymer Liriano walked, Francisco Arcia pushed a squeeze bunt up the first base line and Fernandez beat the throw to the plate to score the go ahead run. Dustin Ackley added an insurance run with an RBI double. After walking the first batter he faced to put runners at first and second, Ralston Cash (3-2) struck out the next three Tacoma batters to close out the game and earn the win. The Rainier loaded the bases with no outs in the tenth inning, but Cash got a force out at the plate and two strikeouts to escape the jam.

Salt Lake trailed 5-1 after five innings, but Fernandez belted a three run homer in the sixth to pull the Bees to within one. They tied it in the seventh, as Liriano tripled and scored on a single by Arcia and then took the lead, as Tacoma committed three errors on a single to center by Matt Thaiss to take a 7-5 lead. After the Rainiers tied it with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Liriano belted his 12th home run to put the Bees back in front. Tacoma would tie it up with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to set up extra innings. Michael Hermosillo and Liriano each had two hits to lead the Bees, who have now won eight of their last nine games.
