Devils Streak Ends With Loss At Norfolk
March 18, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - A 4-1 setback to the Norfolk Admirals halted the Albany Devils push for a franchise-record, six-straight victories. The Admirals jumped out to a pair of goals in the first nine minutes at the Norfolk Scope Arena Friday to improve to 35-19-8-5. Adam Henrique scored for the Devils, who are now 29-35-1-3.
It was the Devils' first loss since falling at Adirondack on Mar. 6 (4-3). Since then, Albany had won five-straight games, tying a club record. The Devils will have a chance to avenge Friday's decision when these two teams meet again on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
Henrique's shorthanded goal came while the Devils trailed 2-0 in the second period. Tim Sestito and Olivier Magnan had the assists as Henrique fired a wrist shot from the left face-off circle at 1:05. The tally marked Henrique's team-high 23rd goal and the team's 10th shorthanded goal of the season.
Henrique has already set the franchise record for goals by a Devils AHL rookie and is closing in on the all-time rookie points' record. He has 43 points (23g-20a) and trails Matt Taormina, who had 50 points (10g-40a) in 2009-10.
Norfolk received goals from Tim Marks, James Wright, Matt Fornataro and Stefano Giliati. Cedrick Desjardins earned the win between the pipes with 22 stops on 23 attempts.
Marks opened the scoring with a rebound goal at 6:08 of the first period and Wright followed with a wrist shot at 8:38 of the season frame.
After Henrique's goal, Fornataro recaptured a two-goal lead at 6:53 while on the power play and Giliati produced the final score with an empty netter with 40.9 seconds remaining.
Fornataro finished with a goal and an assist, while leading scorer Marc-Antonie Pouliot registered a pair of assists.
Dave Caruso was credited with the loss in goal despite making 24 saves on 27 shots.
Saturday's 7:15 p.m. game can be heard on 104.5 FM "The Team" ESPN Radio or online at AHLLive.com.
