Desrosiers, Ritchie Lead Stars to 5-2 Win

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Brett Ritchie scored twice and Philippe Desrosiers turned aside 48 shots in net as the Texas Stars swept their weekend set against the Chicago Wolves with a 5-2 win in front of 6,261 fans at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night.

The Stars (19-14-3-3) gave up 50 shots for the first time in franchise history, but Desrosiers kept the Wolves' offense in check as earned his second career win in as many nights. Justin Dowling finished with a goal and two assists. The Stars also extended their point streak to three games as they closed out their season series against Chicago winning three of the four matchups.

Texas hits the road on Friday when they visit the Bakersfield Condors at 9 p.m. CST.

After Texas drilled a pair of power play goals in Friday night's 3-1 victory, the Stars again used an early man advantage to notch a 1-0 lead. At 3:12 of the first, Ritchie corralled a pass from Dowling and snapped home his eighth of the season from the right circle for his first on the night. The Wolves (16-15-1-2) tied things up at 11:08 when Zack Torquato tapped in a crossing feed from Yannick Veilleux off a counterattack rush, but Cole Ully answered back for the Stars. The rookie forward worked his way through two Chicago players in the right circle and rifled his second of the season past Pheonix Copley at 14:35 to make it a 2-1 score after one.

Ritchie tallied his second of the night at 5:16 of the second after knocking a bouncing puck past Copley in the goal crease. Dowling picked up the helper again and notched the 150th assist in his pro career. Three minutes later, Jason Dickinson threaded the puck to Derek Hulak behind the net, who stuffed home a wrap-around goal to give Texas a 4-1 lead at 8:02 in the middle frame. The Wolves cut the deficit to 4-2 when Riley Brace buried a power play goal from the slot off a blocked shot at 11:15.

With 2:25 to play, Dowling lifted an empty goal from his own faceoff circle to seal the final score and finish with a three-point night.

Copley stopped 22 of 27 shots for the Wolves in the loss. Desrosiers turned away 71 of 74 shots for Texas in his two games over the weekend against Chicago.

Both teams finished 1-for-4 on the power play.
