Rychel Recalled by Blue Jackets for Fifth Time

Monsters announced Saturday that Monsters second-leading scorer Kerby Rychel, named an AHL All-Star on Thursday, was recalled by the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets for the fifth time this season. A second-year left wing, Rychel, 21, was tabbed by Columbus in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (19th overall) and has five goals, 20 points, 45 penalty minutes and a +2 rating to his credit for Lake Erie this season. In 11 NHL appearances for Columbus this year, Rychel contributed three points, 11 penalty minutes and a +3 rating.

A 6'1", 205 lb. native of Torrance, CA, Rychel posted six assists, 13 penalty minutes and a +6 rating in 16 career NHL appearances for the Blue Jackets spanning parts of the past two seasons and in 72 career AHL games played for the Monsters and Springfield Falcons from 2014 to 2016, Rychel accumulated 17 goals, 53 points, 88 penalty minutes and a +9 rating.

Prior to his professional career, Rychel logged 122 goals, 271 points, 264 penalty minutes and a +27 rating in 256 career OHL appearances for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, Windsor Spitfires and Guelph Storm spanning parts of four seasons from 2010 to 2014. Rychel helped Windsor claim the 2013-14 OHL Championship and was named to the 2013 CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
