Albany Devils Defeat Lehigh Valley Phantoms for 10th Straight Home Victory

Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY - For the 10th consecutive time the Albany Devils stepped onto the Times Union Center ice, they skated off with a victory. Mike Sislo had a goal and two assists and Scott Wedgewood made 26 saves as the Devils downed the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 4-2, Saturday.

Matt Lorito, Reece Scarlett and Brian O'Neill joined Sislo with multiple points. Lorito and Scarlett registered a pair of assists and O'Neill had a goal and a helper. Seth Helgeson scored his first tally of the season and Blake Pietila scored in just his second game back from injury.

The win moved their winning streak to six straight -- the second longest of the season. Albany improved to 22-8-3-0 and 14-2-1-0 on home ice. The Phantoms moved to 17-18-2-1 with their second consecutive loss.

As they have done for most of the season, the Devils found a way to earn a victory with a jumbled lineup. On Friday, the New Jersey Devils recalled Marc-Andre Gragnani, Jim O'Brien and Paul Thompson. They did return Mike Sislo, but recalled Joseph Blandisi Saturday morning.

With all the healthy bodies they have in the lineup, the Devils opened the scoring at 9:55 of the first. Helgeson sent a wrister from the left point towards the goal and the puck found a hole. Scarlett had the first helper to extend his point streak to three games.

After Lehigh Valley's Joe Rehkamp scored his first career goal on a beautiful shot into the upper-left corner at 3:20 of the second, Albany responded with its first of two power play goals.

Pietila redirected Sislo's pass between his legs at 4:09 for his sixth goal of the season. O'Neill scored on the man advantage at 16:17 of the first period on quick passes from Lorito and Scarlett.

Lehigh Valley pulled within two at 3:34 of the third on a Davis Drewiske follow up try.

Wedgewood and the Devils defense shut the door the rest of the way. The Devils' netminder extended his winning streak to four games -- his longest stretch since March 15-22 during the 2013-14 season.
