Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch scored three consecutive goals to roll past the Hershey Bears, 4-2, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Jeff Tambellini opened scoring with his third goal in two games, followed by captain Mike Angelidis and Tye McGinn. Tanner Richard topped it off with an empty net tally along with two assists on the night. A total of seven Crunch players recorded points tonight, including Richard (1g, 2a), Tambellini (1g, 1a), McGinn (1g), Angelidis (1g), Matt Taormina (1a), Daniel Walcott (1a) and Matthew Peca (1a).
The victory snaps a three-game winless streak and pushes the Crunch to 15-14-5-1 on the season and 3-0-1-0 in the six-game season series. Hershey is handed their second loss this weekend and moves to 18-13-1-5.
Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox made 28 saves on 30 shots in his first start since Dec. 20. His counterpart, Justin Peters, allowed four goals on 26 shots. The Crunch special teams were effective, going 1-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Hershey was first on the board at the 4:04 mark of the opening period. During a battle in front of the net, Chris Bourque caught Wilcox as he was down and got the puck across the goal line. Sean Collins and Travis Boyd grabbed the assists. The Crunch responded with 2:14 remaining in the frame. Taormina threw the puck over for Tambellini to blast home from the top of the left circle to send the teams into the first intermission knotted, 1-1. Richard tallied his first point of the night on the play.
The Bears took back the lead at the 7:19 mark of the middle stanza. Christian Djoos riffled a slap shot past Wilcox with the help of Nathan Walker and Garrett Mitchell. That marked the end of Hershey's scoring.
Syracuse went on to net three consecutive goals to rally past Hershey. Just before the halfway mark of the second, Angelidis evened the score for the second time. He found the rebound of Richard's shot from the right point and jammed in his third of the season. The secondary assist went to Walcott.
Early in the third period, the Crunch took over the lead. McGinn received a pass from Peca and netted a wrist shot through traffic from the top of the right circle. Tambellini earned a multi-point game with an assist on the eventual game-winner. Richard secured a 4-2 victory for the Crunch with an empty net marker with 24 seconds remaining in the contest.
The Crunch complete their weekend three-in-three with a trip to Rochester to face the Americans at 5:05 p.m. tomorrow.
