WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - A back-and-forth contest between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utica Comets ended with Scott Wilson taking control of the AHL's goal-scoring lead and a 4-2 Penguins victory.

Wilson scored twice for his 17th and 18th goals of the season, putting him atop the league's goal leaders and pushing the Penguins' record to 26-8-0-1.

The Penguins' power play got them on the board first with Tom Kostopoulos tipping in a feed from Conor Sheary at 9:46 of the first period.

Will O'Neill netted his fifth goal of the season with five seconds left in the opening period, extending Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead to 2-0.

Utica put an end to Tristan Jarry's personal shutout streak when Hunter Shinkaruk redirected in a power play goal with three ticks remaining in the second period. Jarry, who returned from injury for his first start since Dec. 16, 2015, saw his shutout streak end at 183:59.

Wilson gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 3-1 advantage at 6:40 of the third period with the Penguins' second power play goal of the game.

The Penguins finished the game two-for-five on the man advantage, while Shinkaruk's second period tally was the Comets' only power play goal of the contest on four different chances.

With the goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Alex Friesen made things interest by cutting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead down to 3-2 with 1:45 left in the game.

However, Wilson secured the Penguins victory and sole possession of the AHL overall goal-scoring lead with an empty net marker at 19:39 of the third. The empty-net goal brought the game to its final score of 4-2.

Jarry completed the game with 29 saves, improving his own record to 9-1-0-0, while Utica's Joe Cannata made 24 stops on 27 shots.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next set of games is a back-to-back slate with the St. John's IceCaps in Newfoundland, Canada, kicking off a six-game road stretch for the Penguins. The first game between the IceCaps and Pens is scheduled for a 6:00 start on Tuesday, Jan 12.
