Delmas Denies Road Warriors in Shootout

GREENVILLE, SC- Peter Delmas has had great success against the Greenville Road Warriors in his career, entering Monday's game with a 7-2-2 career mark against the Palmetto State's newest squad. His success continued on Monday afternoon, as Delmas stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced during the game, before going 5-for-5 in the shootout, pushing the Wheeling Nailers past the Road Warriors, 3-2 at BI-LO Center.

The Road Warriors opened the scoring at the 4:05 mark of the first period. Jordie Johnston slipped a pass behind the net to Brendan Connolly, who immediately found Ryan Flanigan in the slot. Flanigan took a shot with a one-timer, putting it into the back of the net, giving his club a 1-0 lead through one period of play. Greenville led the shots on goal, 14-6, while the Nailers killed the lone penalty of the frame.

Wheeling bounced back in the second period, outshooting the Road Warriors 15-7, while netting the tying goal. Chris Barton fed the puck to Keven Veilleux, who found himself with all sorts of time and space along the left wing wall. Veilleux took full advantage, skating in, and snapping a wrist shot past Scott Stajcer. The power play goal was the Nailers' fourth in their last two games, as the contest went into the third, even at one.

In the third period, the Nailers grabbed an early lead. Paul Crowder and Chris Barton rushed the puck in on the right side of the offensive zone, with Crowder backhanding a shot on goal, that was stopped by Scott Stajcer. However, the rebound went to Barton, who slid his 14th of the season into the back of the net. With 8:40 remaining, Greenville knotted the score, as Sean Berkstresser squirted a backhander through Peter Delmas' legs.

The game went to overtime, and eventually a shootout, as both teams skated away with at least one point. On this particular afternoon, Wheeling took the bonus point, as Chris Barton was the lone player to light the lamp, beating Stajcer in round one.

Peter Delmas put in a spectacular effort for the Nailers, stopping 35 of 37 shots during the game, before turning in a perfect 5-for-5 effort in the shootout. Scott Stajcer was saddled with the shootout loss, making 34 saves on 36 shots.

The Nailers will play three straight games against the North Division, beginning on Friday night at 7:05 against the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center.
