Previewing the Upcoming Week:
2/18 & 2/22 at Trenton - 1:05 p.m. & 7:05 p.m., Home vs. TRE 3-2-0, Away vs. TRE 2-1-1
The last two times the Jackals and Titans have gotten together, offense has been the word of the day. The Titans snagged an 8-5 win in Elmira on January 18, but the Jackals answered back with an 8-1 triumph on January 27. Those games continued, and even slightly escalated, the offensive trend in the season series. The teams have combined to average 8.6 goals per game when they meet, and the only game which totaled fewer than six goals combined was Trenton's 2-1 win in Elmira on November 16. The Jackals will try to keep Trenton in the doldrums when it comes to its results on home ice. Since the start of 2013 the Titans have gone 3-5-2 at the Sun National Bank Center. All three of Trenton's wins in that time were in overtime and two of them were against the Reading Royals.
2/23 & 2/24 vs. Kalamazoo - 7:05 p.m. & 4:05 p.m., Home vs. KAL 0-1-0, Away vs. KAL
Elmira closes out its four game season series with the Wings thanks to back-to-back games this weekend at First Arena. Historically, the Jackals have had a hard time at home against Kalamazoo with a 3-5-2 record in their ECHL history. That was after Elmira won two of three against the Wings at home last season. The road team has won each of the first two games in the season series this year, but the major player in each game was Wings goalie, and former Jackal, Joel Martin. In Elmira's 2-1 win in Kalamazoo on January 16 Martin stopped a club record 46 shots, but still lost the game. When the teams met in Elmira on February 8 the Jackals launched 41 shots and scored on three of them. The offense wasn't enough as Elgin Reid scored a pair of goals and Alex Mallet had three points (1G, 2A) to power the Wings to a 5-3 triumph.

Recapping Last Week:
2/13 at Reading: W 5-3
Four consecutive goals spread over the second and third periods moved the Jackals from a 2-1 deficit to a 5-2 advantage last Wednesday at the Sovereign Center. Jordan Pietrus (1G, 2A) and Rob Bellamy (2G, 1A) paved the way for Elmira's offensive outburst, and Kevin Harvey added a pair of assists against his former team. Maxime Clermont turned in 27 saves to earn the victory.
2/15 vs. Reading: W 4-3
Justin Daniels, centering Elmira's top line for the first time this season, scored his third goal of the season just before the game was three minutes old. Elmira continually thwarted Reading's comeback attempts as the Royals tied the game on three different occasions. Jordan Pietrus, Kevin Harvey, and Rob Bellamy provided Elmira's three other goals, in that order, to give the Jackals their fourth win in a row over Reading.
2/16 at Reading: L 3-4
On Saturday night it was Elmira's turn to try to play catch up as Reading scored the first two goals in its annual Pink in the Rink game. Elmira drew even on a late first period goal by Jean Bourbeau and an early strike in the second by Jordan Pietrus. The Royals again scored two straight, this time 2:19 apart in the third, to distance themselves from the Jackals. Kevin Harvey scored with just under five minutes left, but the tying goal eluded Elmira.
Quick Hits:
* Jean Bourbeau has scored at least one point in seven of Elmira's eight games in February (3G, 5A) and has established new career highs in goals (16) and points (32). He needs one more assists to top his 16 from 2011-12 with Elmira. He also needs seven more games played to pass his best 58 from 2008-09 with Odessa of the Central Hockey League.
* Elmira has utilized 37 different players this season (33 skaters and four goalies). That is far behind the record 62 from the 2007-08 and 2010-11 seasons. They would have to bring in only three new players for the rest of the season to beat the 41 skaters used during the 2009-10 season.
* The Jackals finish out their February schedule by playing three of their five games against Atlantic Division rivals Trenton (2) and Wheeling (1). They have a combined record of 9-6-1 record against those teams. Kalamazoo (2) makes up the rest of the schedule with a pair of visits to First Arena.
* Steven Kaunisto has the third best points-per-game average (.50) and +/- rating (+9) among Jackals defensemen despite playing just 14 games. Kyle Bushee (.53, +12) and Jordon Southorn (.51, +14) are just ahead of him.
* The Jackals went 3-for-16 (19%) on the power play against Reading last week. Against the Titans they are 8-for-39 (20%) on the season. Trenton holds the best penalty kill in the league at 86.1 percent and Reading is sixth at 84.2 percent. Wheeling holds down the fourth spot at 84.7 percent.
