Defenseman Escobedo Claimed Off Waivers from Trenton

Peoria, Ill. (October 15, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie defenseman Brian Escobedo was claimed off waivers Wednesday, October 13 from the Trenton Titans.

Escobedo – a 6-foot, 173-pound native of Bayside, New York – played eight games for the now-defunct Cincinnati Cyclones late last season at the conclusion of his four-year career at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University. The 22-year-old backliner notched three assists in eight games (including one played against the Rivermen) with the Cyclones to finish the 2003-2004 regular season. He registered a career year as a sophomore (2001-2002) at Bowling Green State, posting single-season collegiate career bests in games played (40), points (14) and penalty minutes (PIM-52).

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen host the archrival Toledo Storm in a preseason game tonight – Friday, October 15 – at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. Peoria opens its ninth season in the 28-team league on Friday, October 22, 2004, when they host the archrival Dayton Bombers at Carver Arena.
