October 15, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Condors enter their second week of training camp by adding one of the leading scorers from the college ranks to the roster, accepting the assignment of LW/RW Connor James by the Los Angeles Kings. James joins G Yutaka Fukufuji as players under contract with the Kings who will play with Bakersfield this season.
The Kings drafted James, 22, in 2002 after his sophomore season at the University of Denver, where he had just finished second on his team in scoring with 42 points in 41 games. Two seasons later, the Calgary native developed into one of the most touted players in the college ranks. He recorded 150 points in his four years with the Pioneers, now ranking in the top 20 in school history. A National Championship capped his success there in 2004. James set up the game-winning goal in the championship match, a 1-0 victory over Maine, and was named to the All-Tournament Team, despite sitting out over a month with a broken leg.
James' career at the U. of Denver was not without accolades. In addition to the championship and Frozen Four honors, he was pinned as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Academic Athlete of the Year in 2004. He was also named to the All-WCHA Academic Team in 2002-03 and was a Third Team All-WCHA in 2001-02, the year he was drafted. He finished second on his team in assists and points in each of his last three seasons.
