Alaska Aces News Release

Anchorage, Alaska – The Alaska Aces broke open a 1-1 game with three unanswered goals in the final period of a 4-1 victory over the Greenville Grrrowl Thursday night in front of 2,506, completing a two-game sweep of their preseason series with a club picked to finish first in the East Division.

The first period provided a complete reversal of the previous night's game, as Greenville registered the game's first eight shots on goal, while Alaska did not record its first shot on net until the 9:48 mark. But as they did the previous night in an eventual 3-2 shootout win, the Aces scored first, courtesy of Jordan Cameron with 4:16 left in the period. The Grrrowl tied the game midway through the second period, as Colin Pepperall beat Alaska goaltender Lance Mayes on a breakaway at 11:53.

The game remained locked in a 1-1 tie until Bruno Lemire connected on a one-timer from Charles Linglet and Joe Talbot two and a half minutes into the third period. A roughing penalty called against former Aces captain B.J. Young gave Greenville an opportunity to deadlock the contest with five minutes to play, but Talbot converted a two-on-one with Mike Scott for a shorthanded goal at the 16:03 mark. Less than two minutes later, Olivier Filion's wrist shot sailed through a screened Grrrowl netminder Matt Hartney to account for the final margin.

Keith McCambridge again did not play for the Aces, who also were without Kimbi Daniels, but both are expected to be ready by next weekend. Final cuts are expected to be made over the weekend as the club pares its active roster down to 20.

Alaska opens the regular season October 22 at defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho in a game that will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD at 5:05 p.m. AST. The game also can be seen on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. The Aces will play their home opener October 29 against San Diego, in the first of a three-game set that continues Saturday and Sunday, October 30-31. The Friday and Saturday games begin at 7:15 p.m., with the Sunday match slated for a 5:05 face-off.
