Reminder About ECHL Rule Changes

Published on October 15, 2004 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

Here is a reminder about two rule changes approved by the ECHL Board of Governors at its Annual Meeting in June.

The ECHL has eliminated the 10-minute misconduct penalty given to the ‘instigator'. The ‘instigator' will receive a two-minute penalty for instigating and a five-minute major for fighting. A player who receives an ‘instigator' penalty in the last five minutes of regulation or in overtime will be assessed a game misconduct and an automatic one-game suspension.

The ECHL will allow a minimum of 10 shooters to participate in the shootout. After the initial 10 shooters have gone, the team has the option of using a player who has already shot or continuing through its remaining players.
