Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The 2004-05 ECHL season will start for the Bakersfield Condors with a visit from old friends, as the Fresno Falcons and Condors meet for a pair of pre-season matches this weekend. The Condors travel to Save Mart Center on Friday, October 15th and host Fresno at Centennial Garden on Saturday, the 16th.
Real Rock 93.1 and Holiday Inn Select present the pre-season game and the puck drops at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are just $10 in the lower level and $5 for the upper level. The Condors will also debut one of three new sets of jerseys on Saturday. While a couple regulars may sit out the game, the majority of the top players for Bakersfield will skate for Head Coach Marty Raymond and Assistant Coach Paul Willett. Friday's game is a 7:00 p.m. start from Save Mart Center.
"We're finally getting ready to play hockey," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We're looking forward to seeing guys in competition against another team. It's time to see what we can do as a group; we have some guys competing for jobs. I want to see some good, clean hockey."
The home-and-home series this weekend represents the only time for the Condors coaching staff to fine-tune the roster against another team before Opening Night. They must trim the current roster of 27 players down to the regulation 20-man list by Friday, October 22nd when Victoria comes to town to start the regular season.
Saturday will also be the first day that individual tickets for the regular season will go on sale. Tickets may be purchased through the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmast er.com or at any Ticketmaster location.
The 2004-05 season opens in 7 days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings as a part of an Olympic celebration weekend. Everyone in attendance on Opening Night will receive a Condors magnet schedule, courtesy of KGEO AM 1230. On Saturday the first 2,000 fans will receive a Condors Gold Medal, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and American Business Machines. The famous ZOOperstars make a return to Centennial Garden on Saturday as well, with a visit from Ichiroach Suzuki, Derek Cheetah, Roger Clamens, Mia Hammster, Peyton Manatee and Dennis Frogman.
A pair of Kern County Olympians will visit to drop the puck and sign autographs as well, with Gabe Woodward visiting on Friday and Larson Jensen on Saturday. Both games can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230 with "Condors Countdown" starting at 6:45 p.m. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $30.
