Davis Throws Seven Shutout Innings as Bombers End Six-Game Slide

KENOSHA, W.I. - It was Adam Davis who propelled the Bombers to a 4-2 victory Sunday over the Kenosha Kingfish as the Bombers ended their six game slide.

Kenosha entered the game outscoring the Bombers 25-9 but it was the Battle Creek offense that shined this afternoon.

Davis threw seven scoreless innings giving up just four hits striking out two. Davis is just the fourth Bombers starter to go seven innings this season and the first to not give up any runs over that distance. Davis improves to 2-2 on the season with both victories coming at Simmons Field against Kenosha.

The Bombers struck first in the third inning off starter Ethan Peters. After two quick outs, Isaac Raab reached on a Mitch Jebb throwing error. And after an Arron Beck walk it was Jack Merrifield who drove in both runners with a triple. Merrifield scored on a Roman Kuntz loop single to left field. It was the first time the Bombers had scored first in a game in the last six games.

Of the four runs given up by Peters over his six innings of work only one of them was earned. That earned was was the Bombers fourth run of the game as Merrifield came into score in the sixth on a Roman Kuntz ground out.

The Bombers had five hits in their victory. Merrifield lead the Bombers offense going 3-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. Kuntz drove in two runs going 1-4.

Davis Burgin tossed the final two frames for the Bombers giving up a two runs on two hits. Things got interesting against the Bombers reliever in the eighth as Chase Estep hit an RBI single to score Mitch Jebb and Justin Janas followed with a walk. But Burgin bared down as he struck out Luke Stephenson looking to leave both the runners stranded. Burgin alos let up one in the ninth on a pass ball but Burgin got Xavier Watson to line out to end the game.

The Kingfish had six hits on the day Estep and Jebb each had two hits a piece.

The Bombers improve to 4-11 in the second half and 17-32 overall. The Kingfish drop to 9-7 in the second half and 28-22 overall. The Northwoods League will be on pause for three days for the all-star break and then the Bombers will resume play Thursday with a two-game series with the Green Bay Booyah at C.O. Brown Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
