
Pit Spitters Head to All-Star Break with Win and Division Lead

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters held off the Kalamazoo Growlers 11-9 in the final game before the Northwoods League All-Star Game.
At 29-21, the Pit Spitters are in first place in the Great Lakes East overall standings.
The Pit Spitters got out to a big 11-0 lead before the Growlers scored nine unanswered, creating a close finish.
Chris Monroe had an RBI groundout and Miles Simington had an RBI single in the first inning. In the second, Christian Faust hit his second home run of the year, a solo shot to left.
The third inning was the biggest inning of the day for either team as Traverse City scored five. Simington singled home another run to start the scoring. Michael Stygles brought home Tito Flores with a sac fly before Simington scored on a wild pitch. In the same at bat, Faust doubled home Proctor before scoring on an RBI single from Jake Arnold.
Flores had an RBI single in the fourth, followed by RBI groundouts from Monroe and Stygles. The RBI from Monroe was his 40th on the season. He goes into the All-Star Break tied for the lead in the Northwoods League and first in the Great Lakes.
The Growlers made it interesting with four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Jacob Marcus saw his scoreless innings streak end at 15 before the back half of the bullpen locked down the win. Anthony Ramirez (W, 3-0, 2.84) threw a scoreless seventh and turned it over to O'Kelly McWilliams IV (SV, 2.08) for the last two frames. McWilliams IV allowed just one baserunner in two scoreless innings to lockdown the extended save.
Mario Camilletti went 2-2 with 3 walks. It's his 10th multi-hit game and 12th multi-walk game, his fifth game with 3+ walks.
Miles Simington was 3-5 with 2 RBI's. It's his 11th multi-hit game and sixth already in July.
Monroe had his 13th multi-RBI game of the season and his fourth in his last five games.

Three Pit Spitters head to Mankato, MN for the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 20. John Beuckelaere, Chris Monroe and Jeremy Neff will represent the Great Lakes. Monroe will also participate in the Home Run Challenge tomorrow at ISG Field.
