Bombers Swept in Double Header as Losing Streak Extends to Six Games

KENOSHA, WI., - The Bombers started a three-game series against the Kingfish with a double header on Saturday to make up a rain delay from earlier in the week. Battle Creek lost both games with a final score of 8-4 and 17-5.

Both games started out with Kenosha scoring first. Two runs in the bottom of the first for the Kingfish on a two RBI single by Mitch Jebb. Then in the second, Carmine Lane singled home a run, then Lane and Kirk Liebert scored on a Justin Janas triple, and Vince Bianchina drove home Janas with a single giving the Kingfish a 6-0 lead.

Battle Creek got three of those runs back in the top of the third. Nicholas Powell singled home two runs as Brian Zapp and Beau Kirsch came into score. Powell scored on an RBI ground out by Raymond Hilbrich cutting the lead in half.

Jacob McKeon laced a double down the left field line in the sixth and then scored as Isaac Raab hit one off the glove of the first baseman Janas. It was scored an E3, so no RBI as the Bombers made it 6-4. However, Kenosha got two runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead. A two RBI single by Liebert drove in Cam Collier and Lane. That was all the scoring as a hit and an error in the seventh were left stranded.

The second game showcased the Bombers as the home team since the game that was rained out was in Battle Creek. Home field advantage did not help Battle Creek though. Kenosha scored three in the first, five in the second, and six in the third.

In the first, McKay Barney scored on a ground out by Janas, Cam Redding touched home plate on an RBI walk by Collier, and Chase Estep was driven in on an RBI single by Xavier Watson. Jacob McKeon did score in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch to make it 3-1 Kingfish.

Lane continued his hot day as he tripled home Barney in the second. Lane scored on an E3 to extend that lead. The big swing in the second was by Estep. Redding and Janas were on base because of back-to-back errors and Estep hit one out to the fish bowl club in left field for a three-run home run making it 8-1 Kenosha. In the bottom of the inning, McKeon would score again, this time on an RBI single by Raab.

Lane came back up in the third and after Jebb scored on a wild pitch, he recorded the only hit of the inning, a solo home run off the boat by the left field foul pole. Four more runs came in during the inning. Two on RBI walks and two on wild pitches. The Kingfish took a 14-2 lead into the fourth.

Battle Creek scored two in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI ground out by Jack Merrifield scored Raab and Matt Catalfo was driven in on an RBI single by Aaron Beck. Kenosha added three more in the top of the sixth when they had some pitchers pinch hit because why not. A bases loaded walk in the seventh made it 17-5 and that was it.

Battle Creek falls to 3-11 on the second half and have one more game before the All-Star Break on Sunday against Kenosha. First pitch set for 1:05 Central.
