Cyclones Utilize Pink Power against Nailers
February 23, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
CINCINNATI, OH- The State of Ohio has turned out to be a difficult one for the Wheeling Nailers during the 2012-13 season. Unfortunately, those troubles continued on Saturday night, as the Cincinnati Cyclones painted their ice pink, before designing a 3-1 victory over the Nailers at US Bank Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Cyclones broke the deadlock at the 4:37 mark of the second. David MacDonald took a slap shot from the right point, which was redirected into the back of the net by Mathieu Aubin. A little more than seven minutes later, Cincinnati added to its lead. Dan Eves took a feed from David Pacan, slipping behind the Wheeling defense, before lifting a shot over Scott Darling's blocker. The Nailers had a quick answer, which came after a fight between Peter Merth and Andrew Conboy. Gentry Zollars took a hit to move the puck on the right side of the offensive zone, finding Matt Germain, who banged a shot into the left side of the cage.
Early in the third period, the Cyclones netted an insurance marker. Jack MacLellan turned on the jets on the right side of the ice, and managed to slide the puck into the back of the net for a power play goal. Josh Shalla and Charles-Olivier Roussel got the assists, as Cincinnati finished off its 3-1 win.
Youngstown, Ohio native Michael Houser earned the victory for the Cyclones, turning aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Scott Darling received the loss, making 25 saves on 28 shots.
The Nailers will travel to Fort Wayne on Sunday, where they will face the Komets at 5:05.
