Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
North Charleston, SC: Ryan Zapolski recorded his league leading seventh shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Road Warriors.
No scoring took place in the first period but the Stingrays outshot Greenville 8-6. Halfway through the period, Art Bidlevskii took a five minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct. The Road Warriors power play was cut in half as Steven Delisle took a tripping call. Chad Ziegler was called for spearing and went to the box for a double minor late in the period.
The Ziegler penalty carried over to the second but South Carolina could not convert. Moments later Brian Elser scored on a deflection for his first ECHL goal. About ten minutes later the Stingrays scored with the man advantage. Ryan Hayes scored on a rebound that bounced off the end boards. Hayes scored his eighth goal of the year to bring the Stingrays up 2-0.
The Stingrays scored the final goal of the night just 3:54 into the third period. Roby Dee brought the score 3-0 in favor of South Carolina with his 14th of the year. Zapolski, who saved 27 shots, has shutout the Road Warriors for 151:12. Connor Knapp took the loss in net saving 30 shots. This win extends the Stingrays win streak to four. The Road Warriors have only won one game in the past seven matchups.
With the Florida Everblades loss tonight and having an off day tomorrow, second place is on the line tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. between the Road Warriors and Stingrays for Pink in the Rink Night.
