
Cutters Pick up Matinee Win against Staten Island

The Williamsport Crosscutters picked up their fourth consecutive win as Tyler Gilbert tied a career high with seven strikeouts against Staten Island on Thursday afternoon. The 7-3 win secures a series win for Williamsport as they will look for the sweep of the Yankees tomorrow. Williamsport remains in first place in the Pinckney Division with a six game lead over second place State College.
The Crosscutters offense took a little bit to get going but would score in the top of the third inning. Leading off the inning Dylan Bosheers drove a ball into left field for the Cutters first hit. The Cutters would string together five consecutive hits leading to a pair of two RBI singles. Venn Biter gave the Cutters a 2-0 lead with the bases loaded and Josh Tobias would make it 4-0.
Williamsport added to their lead in seventh inning after Staten Island scored two runs to cut the lead to 4-2. Jesus Posso drove in Venn Biter from 5-2 with an RBI single. Jan Hernandez would follow with an RBI groundout and Austin Bossart with an RBI single to give the Cutters a 7-2 lead. The hit for Bossart extended his hitting streak to 17 games and his on base streak to 21 games. The 17 games is tied for the longest streak this season.
The final run of the game would be scored by Statenn Island in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it 7-3. Sutter McLoughlin worked the final two innings striking out two batters while allowing the run to score on two hits. Gilbert improved to 3-2 on the season while lowering his ERA to 2.53. Gilbert struck out seven batters in the game to tie his career high. Gilbert struck out seven batters in last start at Auburn. With the win, Williamsport has now won 34 games on the season which surpasses their total of 33 from the 2014 season. Williamsport is now 15 games over .500 on the season with three games left before the All-Star break in Aberdeen.
