West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds 4-1 on Thursday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. Aberdeen improves to 26-26 overall this season while the Black Bears fall to an overall record of 25-28.
The two teams were held scoreless through the first two innings until the IronBirds got on the board in the third inning. After leading the inning off with a hit-by-pitch, Aberdeen collected back-to-back doubles to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, the IronBirds extended the lead to 3-0 on an RBI single to left.
Aberdeen added on an extra insurance in the seventh inning on a stolen base attempt in which the ball sailed into center field allowing the runner to come around and score to give the IronBirds a 4-0 lead. The Black Bears had runners on second and third with one out when 2B Kevin Kramer lined a sacrifice fly to left field, bring home C Christian Kelley to cut Aberdeen's lead to 4-1 but that is all West Virginia would score in the game.
SP Dario Agrazal took the loss after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing three runs (all earned), five hits while striking out four hitters. RP's Jerry Mulderig and Luis Paula each pitched two innings allowing no earned runs. Aberdeen SP Jean Cosme picked up the win (2-5) after putting up 6.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
The Black Bears and IronBirds will conclude the series tomorrow night, August 14, at Monongalia County Ballpark with a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 p.m. It is Fireworks Night sponsored by Howard Hanna at the ballpark with gates opening at 5:00 p.m for a pre-game live band on the Premier Party Back sponsored by Schmitt's Saloon.
