
Eighth Inning Sinks Tigers

BURLINGTON, VT-The Connecticut Tigers (25-25) once again fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters (24-28) this time by a score of 3-1. Connecticut will look to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow.
Vermont scored two runs in the eighth to take the lead for good. With Chase Edwards (6-4) on the mound second basemen Trace Loehr (1-3, 2 R) singled with one out and moved to second base after leftfielder Steven Pallares (1-3, R) was hit by a pitch. The next batter was centerfielder Seth Brown (1-4, 3B, 2 RBI) and he ripped a triple to right centerfielder to put Vermont on top 3-1.
Connecticut had tied the game in the top half of the eighth inning against Andrew Tomasovich. It was their first run of the series and it started with an infield single by centerfielder Victor Padron (3-4, R). On the play the ball was thrown away and Padron moved to third base. The next batter was designated hitter Cam Gibson and he delivered the game tying single. James Naile (2-0) came in to try to put out the fire and did but it took a spectacular diving catch by Brown in centerfield for the final out to do so.
The Lake Monsters initially took the lead in the sixth when Loehr scored on a ball that got by the catcher with two outs in the inning. Vermont won despite being outhit seven to four and committing four errors in the game.
Matt Hall started the game for Connecticut and was very sharp in his three innings of work. Hall struck out five and didn't allow a hit. Edwards ended up throwing five innings allowing four hits and three runs. He walked two and hit a man.
Angel Duno got the ball to start for Vermont and hurled five shut out innings scattering four hits while striking out two. On the night Vermont used four pitchers with Naile being the last as he got the final five outs without allowing a hit.
Connecticut will play the final game of the three game series at Vermont on Friday night. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
