Robinson Sharp, but Scrappers Fall Late

August 13, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Thursday was a pitcher's dual between Mahoning Valley's (23-28) Jared Robinson and Hudson Valley's (24-28) Benton Moss in front of 3,229 at Eastwood Field.

Robinson shined, but did not earn a decision. Robinson went six and two-thirds giving up three hits and striking out six. Robinson has not allowed an earned run in his last 13.2 innings pitched, and he has struck out 13. Moss was equally as good. Moss went six innings and gave up four hits, while striking out seven.

This was a scoreless game until the top of the eighth when Angel Moreno hit a solo home run off Ryan Perez (0-1) to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead. Hudson Valley added two more in the inning. Michael Russell singled to center to score Taylor Hawkins (single), and Russell later scored on an error by Scrappers' shortstop Alexis Pantoja.

Tim Ingram (1-1) came in for the Renegades and pitched two scoreless innings en route to Diego Castillo, who earned his fourth save of the year.

The Scrappers have lost six of their last eight, and head into a rubber match with the Renegades on Friday at 7:05. Kieran Lovegrove takes the hill for the Scrappers against Cameron Varga for the Renegades.
