Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are making a pair of Guinness Book of World Record attempts in the coming days at Spinners home games.
The Spinners will make their first attempt at a World Record this Saturday, August 15 for the longest "Mexican Wave." The current Guinness World Record is 9 minutes and 41 seconds and was achieved by Brother Baseball Club (Chinese Taipei) at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Chinese Taipei April 12, 2015.
"We believe Spinners fans are the best in the world," said Spinners Vice President of Communications Jon Goode. "This World Record will only further validate that belief. We look forward to the Spinners giving fans something to stand up and celebrate."
The second Guinness World Record attempt will occur Friday, August 21, as the Spinners partner with Liam Fitzgerald, the fist-bumping Bruins fan. A cancer survivor, Liam took the region by storm with his support of the Bruins and now the Spinners will partner with Liam to "Fist-Bump to Fight Cancer." The current world record is 1,082 people fist-bumping simultaneously, a record the Spinners look forward to smashing.
"Liam is such a brave individual," said Goode. "His perseverance and good natured spirit is something for everyone to celebrate. We look forward to everyone bumping-out cancer, supporting Liam and all those who have battled or are fighting cancer with this show of support."
The Guinness attempt will take place in the middle of the fourth inning as the Spinners take on the Staten Island Yankees, with post-game fireworks to follow.
Both record attempts have been approved by Guinness and will become official upon certification after the event.
Tickets for both games remain available at www.LowellSpinners.com.
