
Cutters Huge First Inning Leads to Sweep of Doubleheader

The Williamsport Crosscutters picked up a decisive 8-0 win in the second game of a double header Friday night against the Batavia Muckdogs. The Cutters are now 5-1 this season against the Muckdogs. The Cutters delivered plenty of offense in the first inning thanks in part to five walks issued by Batavia. Gregori Rivero highlighted the inning with a two RBI single. The Cutters improve to 15-2 at Susquehanna Bank Park and 20-7 overall on the season.
The Cutters would plate six runs in the first inning against Batavia starter Nick White. The first run would score as Brendon Hayden drew a bases loaded walk to score Mark Laird. Venn Biter gave the Cutters a 2-0 lead after a throwing error by Batavia catcher Blake Anderson that went got into left field. Williams Cuicas chipped in as well picking up an RBI off a fielder's choice to make it 6-0.
Mitch Gueller bounced back from a tough first inning as he walked the first two batters of the game and would see runners reach second and third base. Gueller worked out of the jam picking up a strikeout and a ground out. The defense for the Cutters did their part to chip in when needed turning two double plays to help out their starter. Cuicas turned the first double play himself in the third inning after snagging the baseball, stepping on third base and firing on over to first to end the inning.
The Cutters would add a run in the third inning as well as the sixth inning to take an 8-0 lead. The offensive output would be more than enough on the night for Gueller as his picked up the complete game shutout. Gueller struck out six batters over seven innings to move to 4-1 on the season and lower his ERA to 2.48. Rivero finished the game 2 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBI. Cuicas went 1 for 3 also picking up a pair of RBI.
