
Connecticut Wins Final Game of Series against Lowell

LOWELL, MA-The Connecticut Tigers (12-14) defeated the Lowell Spinners (16-11) by a final score of 4-3 on Friday night. It was just the Tigers third win in their last nine games.
The Tigers jumped on top in the third inning with a pair of runs. Third basemen Steven Fuentes and first basemen Jacob Kapstein both walked to start the frame. After a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with just one out second basemen Pat Mackenzie drove in a run with an RBI single and shortstop AJ Simcox drove in another making it 2-0.
Connecticut extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth. With one out Mackenzie walked and then scored on a RBI base hit from designated hitter Will Allen.
Lowell scored a run in the seventh to make it 3-2 however Connecticut pushed across an insurance run in the ninth. Leftfielder Victor Padron came through with a RBI single to push the lead to 4-2.
Jake Shull (SV 1) worked into some trouble in the ninth but was able to wiggle out of it. With the score 4-3 and the tying and winning runs on base Shull got catcher Austin Rye to fly out to centerfield.
Sandy Baez got the start for Connecticut and worked four innings allowing an unearned run on six hits while striking out five. Gerson Moreno (1-2) got the win allowing a single run on two hits in three innings.
Javier Rodriguez (0-1) started the game for Lowell and took the loss. He struggled through his four and two third innings as he gave up three runs on three hits and four walks.
Connecticut will play Hudson Valley tomorrow at home in the first game of a three game series. The first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
