Aberdeen, MD (7/17/15)- Behind a strong pitching performance, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 2-1 on Friday evening at Ripken Stadium. With the win, Hudson Valley improved their overall record to 14-12 while Aberdeen dropped to 13-13.

The IronBirds scored their lone run of the night in the bottom of the first inning when second baseman Drew Turbin singled and scored later in the inning on a two-out RBI single from third baseman Austin Pfeiffer, giving Aberdeen a 1-0 lead. The Renegades tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by designated hitter Manny Sanchez.

Hudson Valley took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when shortstop Jake Cronenworth singled to lead off the frame, moved to second on a ground out and scored on left fielder Joe McCarthy's RBI single. The RBI was McCarthy's first of his professional career.

Renegades starting pitcher Travis Ott (3-1) won his second consecutive start as he went six innings, allowing one run off two hits while striking out five.

Michael Velasquez relieved Ott in the bottom of the seventh inning and pitched a three- up, three-down inning. Diego Castillo relieved Velasquez in the eighth inning and retired all six batters he faced in two innings on the mound, picking up his second save of the season.

Aberdeen's starter Travis Seabrooke (2-2) took the loss, allowing two runs off four hits in five innings of work.

Notes: Friday night was one of Travis Ott's strongest performances on the mound this season. In his longest appearance of the season, Ott threw 51 strikes in 82 total pitches in six innings while allowing a season-low two hits. Also, his five strikeouts on the night tied a season-high for him.

Hudson Valley travels to face the Connecticut Tigers for a three-game series, with game one set for Saturday, July 18th at 7:05pm.
