-SPIKES FINISH TRIP TO WEST VIRGINIA: Tonight, the State College Spikes continue their 10th Season as they conclude a three-game series at Monongalia County Ballpark against their Pinckney Division foes, the West Virginia Black Bears. The Spikes took two out of three games from the Black Bears at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park July 1-3, and are coming off a 3-3 homestand against a pair of Stedler Division opponents, Connecticut and Tri-City. All-time, State College holds a 50-45 record against the West Virginia franchise, including games played against Jamestown from 2006 to 2014. The Spikes are now 2-0 at Monongalia County Ballpark, and went 24-22 in games played in Jamestown over the club's first nine seasons.
-LAST GAME: Jorge Rodriguez tossed six scoreless innings to start the game for the State College Spikes, and Luke Harrison finished with three strong frames to earn his first pro save as the Spikes topped the West Virginia Black Bears, 3-1, on Thursday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. The win was the third in a row for the Spikes, who also earned their fourth straight road victory. Rodriguez allowed three hits, including a double and a triple, and a walk during his outing. However, the right-hander stranded three runners in scoring position and set down 10 straight batters at one point to earn the victory. Rodriguez also recorded three strikeouts on the night. Harrison gave up a run on Logan Hill's fielder's choice in the eighth and three total hits, but the Indiana product also struck out a batter in his longest professional outing. Casey Grayson saw both his 23-game on-base streak and his 14-game hitting streak come to a close on Thursday, but still contributed both of the Spikes' runs batted in.
-MARTINEZ GETS THE START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball for State College tonight in his fifth start of the 2015 NYPL season. Martinez yielded three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings last time out against Connecticut, stopping a streak of 13 straight innings without allowing an earned run. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native shined in his only ther road start this season, tossing seven shutout innings against Mahoning Valley on June 26. Martinez has been an expert at shutting down innings this year, as batters have an 0-for-11 mark against him with runners on base and two outs this year.
-BLACK BEARS SEND AGRAZAL TO HILL: Right-hander Dario Agrazal gets the start for West Virginia in his sixth appearance of the year. Agrazal faced the Spikes on July 1, taking the loss at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park after yielding three runs, two earned on six hits and a walk over five innings. The Aguadulce, Panama native has gone at least five innings in each one of his first five starts. Agrazal did not receive a decision in his last outing, a five-inning start at Vermont in which he allowed two runs on three hits, including a home run, and a walk.
-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson saw both his 23-game on-base streak and 14-game hitting streak come to a close, but is still at or near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product leads the NYPL in batting average with a .379 mark, and his .455 on-base percentage is tops in the league. Grayson also occupies spots in the top five in hits (1st, 33), RBI (T-3rd, 20) and runs scored (T-2nd, 17)
-SPIKE MARKS: Pedro Echemendia is tied for fourth in the NYPL in appearances with nine...Landon Beck is second in the league with a 0.76 WHIP...Mike Pritchard leads the NYPL with 19 runs scored...The Spikes are tied with Vermont for the best team batting average at .261, and their 224 hits as a team are second-best in the NYPL...Ian McKinney has logged 28.2 innings, tied for the fifth-most in the league this season...State College is 4-1 on St. Louis Cardinals off days this season...The Spikes are 13-1 when leading after six innings this year, but 0-10 when trailing after six...Orlando Olivera has posted multi-hit performances in each of his last two games
