Cyclones Spoil #beatBKLYN Night, 4-3

After defeating the Brooklyn Cyclones (16-10) the last two games, the Staten Island Yankees (15-11) got taste of their own medicine, losing at home on #beatBKLYN Night, 4-3.

The Cyclones struck first, scoring in the top of second inning. Brooklyn's David Thompson singled to right field, then stole second to put himself in scoring position. Zach Mathieu singled to right field, then got caught stealing, which allowed Thompson to score for the first run of the ball game.

Brooklyn added more in the top of the fourth inning as Thompson drew a walk from Staten Island starter Luis Cedeno (L, 3-2) followed by a towering home run by Jeff Diehl to bring the score to 3-0 in favor of the Cyclones.

The Cyclones continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning. Hengelbert Rojas doubled to left field, then scored on a single to center field to make the score 4-0.

The Baby Bombers came roaring back in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Eduardo de Oleo doubled to left field, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ryan Krill brought home the first run of the game on a single to right field, followed by a Brandon Wagner double, putting himself and Krill in scoring position. Junior Valera plated the second run, grounding out to first base to bring home Krill. Staten Island scored its third and final run as Zack Zehner double to left field that brought home Wagner.

After Cedeno allowed four runs, Jose Mesa and Josh Roeder combined for four shutout innings, allowing only two base hits.

Staten Island is back at Richmond County Bank Ballpark Saturday night for FDNY Appreciation Night and Dellin Betances Bobblehead Giveaway. The first 2,500 fans in the ballpark will receive a free Dellin Betances bobblehead, courtesy of Neoti.
