Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

TROY, NY --- Dexture McCall went 4-for-5 with three RBI, Brooks Marlow hit a three-run homer to cap off a five-run seventh inning and two Tri-City pitchers combined to retire the final 15 Vermont batters to lead the ValleyCats to a 9-2 victory over the Lake Monsters in the finale of a three-game New York-Penn League series Friday night at Bruno Stadium.

McCall gave the ValleyCats a lead in the third inning with a two-out, two-run single that also scored Bryan Muniz on a throwing error for a 3-0 Tri-City advantage. Vermont cut the deficit to 3-2 with a bases loaded RBI infield single from Nick Collins in the fourth inning and a Gabriel Santana lead off home run in the fifth.

Weathersby and Steve Naemark would then combine to retire Vermont in order over the final four innings.

The ValleyCats put the game away in the seventh inning with five runs on four hits off Lake Monsters reliever Tyler Painton, who allowed one run on a wild pitch and a Anthony Hermelyn RBI single before Marlow smacked a two-out, three-run homer to rightcenter for an 8-2 lead. Tri-City added another run in the eighth on three straight walks and a McCall RBI single off Derek Beasley.

Collins had two of Vermont's five hits in the game, while White's single in the fifth inning extended his hitting streak to 14 games (tied for seventh longest in Lake Monsters history). Starter Kyle Friedrichs (0-1) was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over three innings to take the loss. Tri-City starter Trent Thornton allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts over four innings, while Weathersby (1-1) allowed one run on three hits with five strikeoutsi in 3 2/3 innings for the win.

With the loss, Vermont (11-15) lost two of three games in the series at Tri-City and now head to Brooklyn for a three-game series against the Cyclones Saturday-Monday. The Lake Monsters return to historic Centennial Field on Tuesday night to begin a six-game homestand against the Auburn Doubledays and Connecticut Tigers.
