Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - The Curve bats were hitting on all cylinders and Mike Crotta had one of his best starts of the season as the Altoona Curve defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (AA-Boston Red Sox) in the opening game of a three game series 10-3 Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark.
The Curve were led on offense by Pedro Alvarez, Gorkys Hernandez, and Steve Lerud. Each finished with three hits on the night with Hernandez hitting 3-for-6 with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Lerud also hit 3-for-5 with a double while Alvarez hit 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs. Alvarez is now 7-for-9 (.778) with three RBIs and three runs scored in his last two contests.
The Curve broke a 2-0 ballgame open with a six-run fourth inning that featured five consecutive singles including a two-run hit by 2B Shelby Ford. Ford finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ford is now hitting .381(8x21) in his last five games with the Curve. The six runs match a season high for a single inning for the third time this year, the last time the Curve plated six runs in an inning was also against Portland in their last series opener on 8/4 at Hadlock Field.
Mike Crotta (6-6) picked up his second straight win over the Sea Dogs after tossing 5.2 innings allowing two unearned runs on six hits while striking out four. Crotta was also the winner after striking out seven Sea Dogs in the Curve's 12-6 win over Portland on 8/4.

Game two is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve radio affiliates.
