Reading Slips Past Trenton 6-5

(Trenton, NJ)- Reading made up a 3-0 deficit, and came-from-behind to top Trenton 6-5 on Tuesday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton has now dropped three straight games.

Down 3-0, Reading scored six unanswered runs.The Phillies got a run back in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Third baseman Neil Sellers.In the eighth inning, the Phillies scored three runs to take the lead.With two outs, and runners at first and third base, Designated Hitter Steve Susdorf connected on an RBI single off of Thunder Reliever Grant Duff (3-2) to slice the Trenton lead to 3-2.Catcher Tim Kennelly followed with a two-run double to give the Reading Phillies a 4-3 lead.The Phillies scored two insurance runs in the ninth inning.Left fielder Michael Spidale had an RBI fielder's choice, and Sellers produced an RBI single off of Thunder Reliever Jose Valdez.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Trenton scored two runs to narrow the score.With Outfielder James Cooper at first and two outs, Center fielder Austin Krum reached on an error by Second baseman Brad Harman.Outfielder Dominic Brown also committed a fielding error on the play to allow Cooper to score.Second baseman Matt Cusick then singled home Krum to cut the Reading lead to 6-5. But, Reading Reliever B.J. Rosenberg retired Malec with the tying run at first base to preserve the win.Reading Reliever Mike Zagurski (3-4) earned the win in relief with a shutout inning.Duff took the loss for the Thunder.He allowed three runs and four hits in two innings.

Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.Center fielder Austin Krum led off the frame with a single against Reading Starting Pitcher Mike Stutes.He advanced to second base on a stolen base, and scored on an RBI single by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez.Trenton added a run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.Designated Hitter Richie Robnett tripled with one out to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez followed with a walk and immediately stole second base.The throw down to second base by Catcher Tim Kennelly went into center field to allow Robnett to score from third base.Trenton increased the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning.Nunez singled and stole second base.Kennelly made another errant throw which allowed Nunez to move to third base.Nunez scored on a sacrifice fly by First baseman Chris Malec.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Lance Pendleton yielded only four hits and one run in six innings for a no-decision.He struck out four and walked two.Stutes gave up seven hits and three runs (one earned) in six innings of work for Reading.Stutes was making his third start of the season for the Thunder.Nunez had three hits in the loss for the Thunder.Trenton had a season-high four steals in the loss.

Trenton and Reading will play the middle game of the series on Wednesday night. LHP Jeremy Bleich (2-5, 5.76) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP Vance Worley (7-6, 5.08).
