(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced on Tuesday that a book drive to benefit the Trenton Public Library has been added to the 2009 schedule as part of the NJEA's Back-to-School Night.

On Friday, August 28, fans are encouraged to bring used books to the ballpark to support the "Books Going Places Book Drive" that will benefit the Trenton Public Library.

Book drive coordinator Lindsey Curewitz, 17, of Pennsbury High School, is aiming to collect 10,000 books for the library that saw its budget cut by 37% this year. As of August 11, she has collected over 6,000 books for the cause.

In addition to books of all kinds (kids, novels, fiction,....everything), books on tape, books on CD, movies (DVDs and VHS), and CDs are also being collected. Fans may drop off their donations at the table on the stadium approach to the right of the main gate.

"The Thunder have long supported reading through our Boomer's Book Buddies and It's Your Turn with Chase in-school educational programs," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "When we found out that Lindsey, a local high school student, had taken it upon herself to help the Trenton Public Library, we were eager to help."

The first 1,500 fans ages 5-15 fans to the game on August 28, will receive a Thunder "Back To School" Spiral Notebook courtesy of the NJEA. Before the game, the winners of the NJEA's annual "My Hero Works At School" essay contest will be announced in a special pregame ceremony.

The game will also feature author Al Santasiere signing copies of his book, "The Final Season: The Official Retrospective" on the main concourse starting at 5:30 PM when gates open for season ticket holders. The Final Season: The Official Retrospective provides the last look at Yankee Stadium from the inside out with more than one hundred and fifty never-before-published photographs shot exclusively for the book. Combined with first-person quotes gathered from the likes of President Barack Obama to national celebrities and Yankees greats, the book captures the magic of the final year in the life of the worlds most famous ballpark.

The Thunder have announced that all kids will eat for free at Waterfront Park throughout the 2009 season. All children with a ticket, ages 12 and under, will receive a voucher upon entering the ballpark good for a free hot dog, bag of potato chips, and a 12 oz. fountain soda at all 71 Thunder home games this season.

The Thunder are the only team in Minor League Baseball history at the Double A Level or below to draw over 400,000 fans for 14 consecutive seasons and have drawn over 6 million in attendance in its 15-year history.
